Evergreen Plumbing just completed a double bathroom renovation for us, in conjunction with our builder. We were really pleased with the work they did, within the estimated time frame and budget.

Renovation Questions, Answered

Do you do full bathroom renovations?

Yes. We take care of everything. Our in-house bathroom consultant and project manager can look after the whole project, including organising the subtrades.

How much does a bathroom renovation cost?

The biggest cost drivers are the size of the room, fixture quality, tiling and waterproofing, and whether you’re changing the layout. Hidden water damage or replacing old pipework can also affect the budget, and plumbing-only work is priced differently from a complete renovation involving several trades. Share your ideas and budget with us, and we can assess the job and provide a budget estimate based on what you want to achieve.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

A full renovation usually takes several weeks rather than a few days. Our team builds a programme that coordinates demolition, plumbing, building work, waterproofing, tiling, drying times and any inspections as efficiently as possible, and schedules our subtrades around it. We also identify decisions that need to be made early – having your fixtures selected and available before we start helps avoid unnecessary delays. Our in-house consultant will take you through the process from start to finish at your consultation.

How do we get started?

Book a consultation at our Hawera office. We’ll go over the project and where you’d like to take it, then give you preliminary pricing based on that initial information. We refine the pricing with site visits and further consultation with you and the subtrades.

When do I need a building consent for a bathroom renovation?

Some replacements and alterations to existing plumbing can be exempt, but adding sanitary fixtures, structural changes or work affecting specified systems can require consent. Shower waterproofing and the full scope of the renovation also need checking, and moving a fixture doesn’t automatically mean consent is required. We can help identify the plumbing requirements and check anything uncertain with your designer or council before work starts.

Do you handle council consents and inspections?

Yes. For bathroom renovations we take care of everything, including arranging the council consent and inspections.

Will we be without a bathroom during the renovation?

The bathroom being renovated will usually be unavailable for part of the project. If it’s your only bathroom, plan toilet and shower arrangements before demolition begins. Depending on the scope, staged work or temporary facilities may be possible. We’ll talk through plumbing downtime with you and the builder so you know what to expect before the renovation gets underway.

Can I supply my own tiles, vanity or fixtures?

Yes, you’re welcome to supply your own fixtures. We recommend sending us the product specifications before you buy so we can check they suit your layout, water pressure and New Zealand requirements – incorrect dimensions or incompatible products can add cost and cause delays. We’re also happy to quote on products you’ve already priced elsewhere. In some cases our supplier pricing means we can offer the same products for less, and when we supply them, we handle any product warranty enquiries or claims on your behalf.

Can you add underfloor heating or a heated towel rail?

Yes. We recommend including them in the initial project planning so the work can be coordinated with the other trades, which helps avoid delays and the extra cost of changes later on.

How does payment work?

A 50% deposit is required for all work over $500. On larger projects, we issue progress invoices as the work progresses, so you pay in stages.

Do you work in my area?

Yes. With teams in New Plymouth and Hawera, we renovate bathrooms across Taranaki, including Stratford and surrounding towns.
